Galeria Tempo is exhibiting pictures of Rio de Janeiro
The exhibition shows the most relevant images made by photographer Custódio Coimbra
To celebrate the release of his book entitled “Rio de Cantos 1000” (Rio of a 1000 Corners), the Carioca photographer Custódio Coimbra is opening, at Tempo Gallery, in Copacabana, the South Zone, an exhibition with 18 of the 113 images of the city, selected from the book. The exhibition shall be running until April 24, from Tuesdays to Saturdays, always from 11:00 am to 07:00 pm. The images which are part of this exhibition depict several and diversified moments of Rio de Janeiro.
From its beaches to its woods, from the swaying of the baianas to soccer matches, from Maracanã to Restinga da Marambaia, from carnival blocks to religious processions, Coimbra has a unique look upon the city, which comes from more than a decade clicking away, and many of those clicks were aerial.
- Every Carioca knows and admires the pictures by Custodio Coimbra. The gallery’s choice was restricted to photographs taken in Rio, depicting nature in a dialogue or in opposition to tarmac. We have chosen more extreme cuts, and tried as much as possible to escape descriptive records. Rio is a photogenic city, and through Custodio lenses it becomes irresistible - says Marcia Mello, one of the curators of the exhibition.
