Understanding Bike Rio
Why not make the best of Marvelous City’s natural beauties and main touristic sites
while getting healthier and helping the environment? Rio City Hall has taken
all this into consideration and created Bike Rio project. You can now rent
bikes in several spots around the city a a fixed price. Make the best choice
for your health and for the environment, say no to automotive vehicles.
Eleven stations are already
operational in Copacabana, located in the following places: Posto Seis, Sá
Ferreira, Miguel Lemos, Cantagalo, Santa Clara, Dias da Rocha, Serzedelo
Correia, Siqueira Campos, Copacabana Palace, Cardeal Arcoverde e Princesa
Isabel. 60 stations should be available before the end of
the year, in a total of 600 bikes all across town. The project is to be
expanded at a later date, and with that goal in mind, more bike paths are being
build throughout the city, and should come to a total of 300km by the end of
1012. Bike Rio is expected to
reach Botafogo, Catete, Centro, Copacabana, Cosme Velho, Flamengo, Gávea,
Humaitá, Ipanema, Jardim Botânico, Lagoa, Laranjeiras, Leblon and Urca next.
Bike Rio is very simple and easy to use. Users
should register in the project’s official website, (www.movesamba.com.br/bikerio),
and select one of the package deals. Daily services cost R$5 and a monthly pass
costs R$10. The bike can be picked up at any of the available stations, and can
be used for up to 60 minutes. After one hour, the user should return the bike
at any of Bike Rio’s stations, and rent it again after 15 minutes for no extra
cost. If the bike is returned after the 60 minute time period, R$5 will be
charged for each extra hour. Payment
by credit card is accepted.
